  • Year 9 French Course Outline

     We study 6 units of the Ça Bouge textbook over two terms, using introductory French language, as well as doing some French culture activities.

    You will do two terms of French this year, with the option of doing a full year of French in year 10.

    There will be a test each term based on the work you have completed in Ça Bouge.  In our French course we learn:

     

    -         basic greetings and introductions

    -         numbers and ages

    -         giving and following simple instructions

    -         talking about likes and dislikes

    -         school subjects and classroom objects

    We use the Expo 2 textbook and workbook this, revising language and structures from year 9, before covering our year 10 topics.Topics include:

    -talking about habits and routines

    -talking about events and where they take place

    -giving and following directions

    -travel and transport

    -shopping, eating and drinking

    -sport and leisure

    -entertainment

  • Year 13 French

     

    Course Content

    This year we will be studying 9 units:

    -         a region of France

    -         getting a job

    -         book review

    -         our changing world

    -         film study: Amélie

    -         environment

    -         social cohesion in France

    -         media

    NCEA Assessment

    There will be regular tests, assessing three of the language skills of listening, reading, and writing.

    There will be tests of the NCEA Level 3 vocabulary list once a week and regular homework assignments.

    The course is worth 24 credits towards NCEA Level 3.

     

    Internal Assessment

    Achievement Standard 90558                                 Credits: 6

    3.1 Listen to and understand spoken language in French in familiar contexts

    The assessment activity will consist of two texts which will each be heard three times.  It will be no more than 45 minutes.  The texts will be on CD, read by a native speaker of French.  Questions and answers will be in English, or use non-verbal means, such as forms, grids, pictures, etc. 

     

     

    Achievement Standard 90561                                  Credits: 6

    3.4 Read and understand written language in French in familiar contexts

    The assessment activity will consist of two different types of written texts.  The combined length of the two texts should be about 400 words.  Questions and answers will be in English or non-verbal means.

     

    Achievement Standard 390562                               Credits: 3

    3.5 Write text in French on a familiar topic

    Evidence will be required from one text of 200-230 words.  It is quality, not quantity that will enhance your chances of merit or excellence.  You will choose one of four topics.

    You need to buy the year 13 workbook from Student Services for $20.

  • Year 12 French

    Course Content

    We study the 12 units in “Tapis Volant 3”, as well as a book review: Le Petit Nicolas.

    Assessment

    There will be regular tests, assessing three of the language skills of listening, reading, and writing.  There will be tests of the NCEA Level 2 vocabulary list once a week and regular homework assignments.

    The results of vocab tests and homework will be recorded and used when writing report comments during the year.

    The course is worth 24 credits towards NCEA Level 2.
